33 Personal Care Products To Help With Annoying Summer-Related Problems

Turns out you can keep protecting your skin with SPF over your makeup *and* fight off beads of sweat that accumulate beneath your bra.

    1. Burt's Bees sunburn soother, aka your new summertime bae — it's made with aloe and coconut oil to give crispy shoulders and rosy-red skin some much needed TLC when you've (accidentally) spent too much time in the sun.

Psst — a lot of reviewers mentioned this also helped prevent peeling and itching!

Promising review: "I ordered this two weeks ago after seeing rave reviews. So grateful I did. Yesterday I got the worst burn. It was unbelievable. I applied this four times over 24 hours. When I woke up this morning it was a lot better and has just gotten increasingly better throughout the day. The burn is mostly faded, and the pain is so much better. I hope to never burn this badly again, but I will be stockpiling this lotion all the same." —Carolina G.

    2. A portable neck fan to give you that sweet relief from the heat wherever you are. It works so well with its three speed settings, you'll almost feel like you have your own personal central AC system hanging around your clavicle.

Depending on your setting, the fan can last 4–16 hours. Once it needs to be recharged, just connect it to any USB cable.

Promising review: "Summer must-have. This fan works! I tried another brand, and it was too noisy. At first, thought it wasn't powerful enough, but I was wrong. It kept me cool in the hot sun in Orlando at theme parks. I kept it on low most of the time as I didn’t need it higher and turned it off when inside; it lasted over eight hours. Definitely recommend. I even wore my hair down, and it didn't get tangled." —Miami girl

Get it from Amazon for $28.99+ (available in five colors).

    3. A CeraVe salicylic acid body wash so you can say "see ya!" to those pesky scabs left over from picking ingrowns, and "au revoir!" to warm-weather keratosis pilaris flare-ups. This exfoliates without the rough, physical microbeads and buffs away bumpy skin while smoothing — thanks to hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.

Promising review: "My 6-year-old daughter has keratosis pilaris, commonly known as 'chicken skin.' This year it really flared up during warm weather so I gave this wash along with lotion a try. Wow, I saw results after just a few uses and after a couple of weeks most of her bumps disappeared. Thrilled we skipped a trip to the dermatologist! Can’t beat this price for the results either." —Ashley Steigerwald

    4. A stick of Body Glide anti-chafing balm to protect your precious skin from irritation, particularly between your thighs, around your neck, under your arms...literally anywhere you can experience rubbing from clothing or regular ol' skin contact.

BuzzFeed Shopping writer Emma Lord uses this and says "I swear by this to the point where if I can't find it in the morning of a summer run, I just won't go out, LOLOL. My boobs chafe SO BADLY under my sports bra bands, no matter what kind I'm wearing, but putting on a tiny bit of this before I leave works like a charm. Absolutely no more friction and no more going 'OW OW OW' in the shower because my literal boob wounds were stinging."

Promising review: "Used for a Vegas vacay. Miles on the strip can do a number on the inner thighs! Used this and it was great!!!!! No soreness or chafing. Kept skin soft smooth and worked for a very long time! This is my first full review of a product because it worked soooo well." —Toya S.

Super cushy, fits true to size — I ordered the mauvish pink colored one and love it. I will be ordering a black pair. I have a heel spur and planters fasciitis so regular flip flops bother me after wearing several hours, these do not. Very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend." —leah

Promising reviews: "I LOVE these! Total game changer. Very smooth taper, seamless transition for layering under the most challenging tops like silk and super soft lightweight T-shirts. I’ve owned this pair for a year, they still stick well and are just starting to lose adhesion around the edges. I even wear them while exercising, no issues! I actually bought another pair to replace them months ago and still haven’t needed to open them :) I wear these a couple of times a week and am very happy with the product, highly recommend! It blends nicely with my skin color, it does not show even under white tops." —Lets Go Shopping

"I literally wear these covers all the time. These covers really are seamless and I love the shades they have, these blend perfectly into my skin tone. As someone with small breasts, strapless bras never really were for me as they always rode down and I would have to adjust them throughout the day. With these, it’s just so much more comfier and they really are sweat-proof, they do not budge. I live in California and it’s summer right now, so it’s been like 85-95 degrees and I can wear these with no issue!! I wash them after every wear and put them back in the casing it comes with." —Marilyn Miranda

You can select your plan based on whether you want a one-time purchase or regular refill plan. Myro deodorants are cruelty-free but there's so much more to it than that — they're also aluminum-, paraben-, phthalate- and talc-free. Plus, they don't use baking soda, artificial colors, or synthetic fragrances, which are known to be skin irritants.

Here's what BuzzFeeder Marquaysa Battle has to say about it: "Tbh, I wasn't looking for environmentally-friendly deodorant although I swear I love Mother Earth. My go-to fragrance-free deodorant was discontinued so I just desperately needed one that wouldn't irritate my sensitive underarm skin and would keep me smelling fresh. All the other natural deodorants I tried DEFINITELY DID NOT KEEP ME FRESH 🙅🏿‍♀️. I had to re-up several times throughout the day just to avoid a sweaty smell, which wasn't my norm and made me feel self-conscious. Finally, I stumbled upon the Myro deodorant and figured I'd just try it since I tried everything else (Native, Tom's, Almay, you name it). I was skeptical because it smelled so good and my severely sensitive skin typically doesn't play nice with scents. I guess since the product is truly natural, that's why it didn't irritate me. Fair warning: I peeped that the deodorant has low ratings on like two sites but it appears that the Myro brand listened to the people, as its website notes that it's upgraded the formula. I've been using it for about three weeks. I apply it once daily and don't have to break my schedule to re-up, haven't had any itchy patches develop under my arms, and FINALLY get to enjoy a great scented product again, which I haven't been able to do in years. BTW, the scent I have is the Chill Wave which smells like cucumber, jasmine, and spearmint 👃🏾❤️."

Get the actual deodorant from Myro for $25 (available in five scents) and the case for FREE (available in five colors). Personalize your case for $6 more, and to just get the refill it's $11.25+.

Promising review: "I have razor burn around my bikini line in the summer soo bad, and I feel like I’m always self conscious and trying to hide it. This product completely solved the problem. Easy to use. I apply it in the morning and evenings and always remember to after shaving. I don’t have any razor burn anymore!!!" —Kellie R

Chlorine = your hair's worst enemy, so apply this color-safe formula to your strands pre-dip and allow to dry before showing off your water gymnastics tricks.

Promising review: "I'm a believer. My daughters have thick, curly hair that takes about 10 minutes to condition and wet-comb daily. Chlorine is kryptonite; their hair becomes frizzy polyester if they swim, rinse, and air dry. This AquaGuard Pre-Swim conditioner is amazing. We work it into wet hair, put the hair in a braid or ponytail, and swim. After swimming, the kids rinse off and comb their hair again. The next morning is the test — no polyester! In fact, the hair looks, smells and behaves as if it had been freshly washed and conditioned before bed. So very worth it!!!" —Denise

Promising review: "I was skeptical about this product. I wasn't sure how it was much different than rolling any other frozen thing on your body. I'm beyond pleasantly surprised. I've used it for sinus pain, migraines, swollen neck glands, under-eye circles/bags, inflamed acne, TMJ pain, etc. Not to mention, when I used it on my face, it leaves my skin feeling tight and wakes me up in the mornings. It also stays cold for forever but never sweats or leaves water behind. It's like magic. I also bought one for my mom who suffers from nerve damage in her arms and legs. I think it'll really help when she has bad pain days." —Jessica McRee

    19. L’Oréal 8 Second Wonder Water Lamellar Hair Treatment, a rinse-out hair treatment that works like a treat in eight, yes, you read that correctly, EIGHT seconds to fight troublesome bed head and frizz caused by humidity. Apply this directly to wet hair, avoiding the roots, massage it in for eight seconds, then rinse. Effort required = practically zero. You can use 1 dose for fine- to medium-textured hair, 2–3 doses for thick- to curly-textured hair, and add one more dose if you have long hair.

Promising reviews: "I don’t usually do reviews on products, but for this one, I absolutely have to. I have 3c type hair and struggle a lot with breakage, unmanageability, and moisture. When my mom mentioned this product to me, I didn’t take her seriously because of the simple fact that we have two completely different hair textures. I never would have thought this brand would work on my hair. I have never in my 22 years felt my hair like this. I feel like I have a completely different head of hair. This product is so amazing, and I will FOREVER be using this product in my hair regimen. Thank you so much!! ♥️" —Theressa Hailey

"It really works! My hair is brittle and dry breaking frequently. I also live in an extremely humid area (South Florida). I never could get that shiny healthy polished hair look in the summer. Until now. I didn’t even need conditioner, and it’s so sleek and silky looking and feeling. No longer dry and easily tangled. So smooth, moisturized without being weighed down. It did feel a bit warm when applying. I took care to avoid getting it on my scalp and just on the hair about an inch away from the root to the bottom. I have a shoulder-length bob." —Bonnie

    20. A set of cooling patches that — don't be fooled — can help relieve a multitude of summer troubles, including drowsiness, bee stings, bug bites, fevers, sunburn, and even hot weather-induced headaches.

Promising review: "Used these on a sunburn on my back, and they were very soothing. Also provided padding when leaning back in my seat. I stuck one on my shoulder also to keep my seatbelt from rubbing the sunburn there. I bought them to use on the back of my kids' necks to help prevent heat exhaustion on a very hot day outside but ended up just using them for burn relief." —Joanna

BuzzFeeder Marquaysa Battle has put this stuff to the ultimate test and this is what she says: "I use this spray and will swear by it for the rest of my days. I definitely have oilier skin in the summer months and over the years, I've tried a number of drugstore setting sprays that did absolutely nothing. This spray is worth the extra coins. I even wore it to Puerto Rico. Through the blazing sun and lots of ocean splashes, my makeup did NOT budge."

    22. A bottle of Bio-Oil to gently treat uneven complexions — along with a myriad of other skin concerns, like stretch marks, scars leftover from bug bites, and sun spots. It's so effective that more than 70,000 people love it. It's also noncomedogenic, which means it won't clog pores and — *jumps for joy* — can be used on the face to eradicate acne scars, too.

Psst! Bio-Oil contains retinol, which accelerates skin turnover but can make you more sensitive to the sun — so don't forget your sunscreen!

Promising reviews: "I LOVE this product! On the left was me two weeks postpartum, and on the right is two months later!! I use this oil religiously! Twice a day (in the morning and at night). I would definitely recommend this to EVERYONE; it is a little pricey, but it is definitely worth it!!!" —Gia

"We spend a lot of hours outside in the sun for my kids' sports, especially in the summer for travel baseball. I noticed after this season, my arms were developing several sun spots. I started using this oil and noticed a difference in less than two weeks. Then, within a couple more weeks, I noticed my hands were looking a lot younger and smoother. I really love this oil, and it's a part of my daily regimen for skin care. It has made a significantly noticeable difference, and I am very pleased with the results." —Sherrmor74

    23. Mighty Patch hydrocolloid pimple patches that can work to absorb pus and shrink zits ~head on~. Since summer can be rough on our skin (think: sweat + humidity + sunscreen) these are great to prevent picking and, according to one of our editors, are an effective treatment to help avoid scarring and hyperpigmentation.

Melanie Aman, an editor on our Shopping team, tried these out and says: "These are hands down the best pimple patches I’ve ever used. Why? Because they actually work. I’ve tried some more cutesy patches that were great for Instagram photos but did nothing to shrink my breakouts. And the pimple patches that touted themselves as basically invisible were — but so were any results. While the Hero Cosmetics pimple patches are a little more visible (but really only noticeable if someone was standing really close to my face), the results are clear to see. (And JSYK, they also make an invisible version, but I have not tried it.)

IMO they work best on whiteheads, drawing out the pus and preventing me from picking. Once all the fluids are drained (yum!), I plop a patch on what was once home to a very angry whitehead and replace it twice a day (once in the morning and once at night). In my experience, that has been the best treatment for preventing really noticeable hyperpigmentation and acne scarring, which my skin is really prone to after breakouts."

Promising review: "This product is amazing and has worked wonders for me! I have used other brands but this one has shown the best results time and time again. I always have these on hand and doesn’t cause any issues on my sensitive skin. Sometimes it may take three nights in a row to really diminish the pimple, but after one night I see results."  —Kristin Mallory

Heads up, if you have sensitive skin you might wanna spot test these before trying them out on your whole bod!

Promising review: "For anyone who might be a skeptic, please allow me to put you at ease. If you have hyperhidrosis, meaning it can be 9 degrees outside and you're still sweating under your arms, this product has the potential to change your life. I would sweat THROUGH a sport coat before noon. Enter the Sweat Block product. I've had it for three weeks, and it is life-changing. I DO NOT sweat under my arms anymore. I'm still on the original box that I bought three weeks ago. I had to write a review after I was cleaning the garage today in 85-degree heat...I was sweating through my shirt on my back...BUT NOT MY UNDERARMS. It is amazing!" —Frosty McGee

    27. A shampoo scalp massager to help you achieve a deep scalp clean with its thick, stimulating silicone bristles. Some reviewers note that it can potentially soothe a dry, itchy scalp that's home to pesky dandruff, too. Plus, it can also be used to gently detangle any knots!

And! This just happens to be fan-favorite among the BuzzFeed writers — including myself. I have one of these shower companions, and while I don't use it every time I get sudsy, I usually run it through my hair after a few days of back-to-back dry shampooing. It really gets in there to clear up any buildup while also feeling like a nice little scalp massage.

Promising review: "I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis that gets very painful and itchy in the summer. This little scrubber helps really scrub away the flakes and gets the shampoo deep in my roots. As someone with dense hair, getting the shampoo really deep into the scalp can be difficult. It doesn't feel too harsh on the skin either." —FanGirlOfTheOpera

I can attest that this pillow is both cooling *and* supportive. I've been lucky enough to try one of these babies, and since I live in California there's been no better place or time to test it out than during this summer's heatwave. I look forward to getting into bed and resting my head on this every night since it instantly cools my face — and stays cools throughout the night. I move around a decent amount in my sleep, and, with each movement, every part of the pillow remains cold. It honestly astounds me. Plus, the firmness is both flexible and supportive and I haven't woken up with a sore neck since I've been using this. It's absolutely worth the investment if you, like me, overheat during the night.

Promising review: "I've always been active all my life and I sweat profusely! It's Summer here in Southwest Florida. I walk over 5 miles outside with temps close to 90 degrees and over 80% humidity. You get the picture. I just received these and this was my first time to try it out. I walked over 5 miles and there was NOT one drop of sweat that went in my eyes. The wicking is the best ever! It never moved on my head (I was worried because I have a small head), it is extremely comfortable, and it is fashionable. Next comes the wash test. The best Amazon purchase ever!" —Michele in O’Fallon

Promising review: "I was looking for a dry shampoo that would be easy to use on the go for a trip I was taking. I had no issues taking this through TSA and it was so easy to use on the go. You literally just pat the poof on your scalp and then rub the powder in. I do have black hair so dry shampoo is usually very visible in my hair, but I didn't have any harder time than usual rubbing this powder in. It did a really good job of soaking up all the oil and giving my hair volume. I'm not a fan of the price for the amount that you get, but it is lasting longer than I thought it would. I would definitely recommend and will purchase again." —Teresa

The directions advised me to use a second application one week after the first, which I did. My feet just keep PEELING. I'm talking massive chunks of skin coming off. My feet literally haven't felt this soft in over a decade and I'm only 21!! It's a must-have for those wanting to take care of their feet!" —Callie Pinaire
